About Us

I began building pools as a teenager in Chicago. After my parents Ros and Pat moved to Florida, we transitioned the family lawn service business to pool building and servicing. My dad passed away in 2000, and my brother left to pursue his own business. My mom and I continued operating the business, focusing on building pools. Pat has now retired, and the business is moving on to the next generation, as I’ve brought my sons John and Jacob on board.

Pelican Pools is located on Ponce de Leon Boulevard just south of King Street in St. Augustine, Florida. Our show pool with its sparkling water and soothing waterfalls is a big attraction on this busy thoroughfare. I feel that having a permanent office is a huge advantage at this time as many contractors are moving in and out of the business. It lets my customers know that I intend to be around when they need me. The office includes a design center where customers can pick their tile and deck finishes from a full line of samples, not just pictures.

I think it’s important to work one-on-one with the customers to design and build their pools. I first meet with the customers at their home to talk about their lifestyle and to see what type of pool best fits their needs and yard. I present several designs and pricing options to the customer, and together we pick the one that best fits their dreams and budget. Using computer – assisted design software, John can create a very realistic image of how the finished pool will look.

I am a Certified Pool Contractor with the State of Florida, and my son John will soon be getting his license as well. As a member of the Florida Swimming Pool Association, John, other employees and I have access to continuing education classes to keep us current on all the latest innovations in pool safety, equipment, and water treatment. Pelican Pools is fortunate to have a very experienced crew and office staff. On average, my employees have been with me for over six years (one will soon celebrate 20 years!). Where special equipment or aptitude is needed, qualified and licensed subcontractors are used, but mostly we like to do the work ourselves. The subcontractors I do use have worked with us for many years. John or I personally supervise each key step of construction.

Once the pool is finished, John or I meet with the homeowners to teach them how to maintain the pool and operate all of the equipment. Pelican Pools maintains a full line of pool and spa chemicals for our customers’ convenience, and computerized water testing is done for free. Staff is available to help with any water balancing questions or problems.

Building backyard dreams is our passion. Come see me and my crew at 308 S. Ponce de Leon Boulevard in beautiful St. Augustine.
